Another Dells' tradition is dinner at the House of Embers, a supper club opened in 1959 by Wally and Barbara Obois. Sons Mike and Mark have taken it over, but have kept things pretty much the same, including featured pork ribs that are smoked on the premises and slathered with a homemade tangy barbecue sauce.

This is everything you'd expect a supper club to be friendly and comfortable, featuring prime rib arid fish specials, and with a piano player providing a background of Gershwin, Porter, and other standards. If you go on a Sunday, you'll likely find the owners' 93-year-old grandmother, Louise Stettin; pounding the ivories.
